Annual Examinations

Annual Examinations are vitally important to your pet's health. When you schedule an appointment for annual vaccines, your pet will also receive a complete, thorough physical examination by the Doctor.

The exam by the Doctor includes:

  • A medical history evaluation
  • Examination of the ears, eyes, nose and throat
  • A cardiopulmonary evaluation
  • Weight and temperature
  • A thorough dental examination
  • A dermatological (skin) exam
  • Nutritional assessment

It is important for the Doctor to do this examination prior to administering any vaccines. Underlying conditions could cause an adverse reaction to the vaccine, and the quickest line of defense is the physical exam.

Along with the annual examination and vaccinations, we recommend the following for a healthy lifestyle:

For Dogs:

  • A high quality diet
  • Annual Heartworm testing
  • Flea and tick control
  • Annual or semi annual stool testing for parasites
  • Dental care as needed
  • Weekly ear cleaning for dogs with ears that hang down
  • For dogs over 7 years of age: annual geriatric blood testing
  • Daily exercise

For cats:

  • A high quality diet
  • FIP vaccine for cats that go outdoors
  • Flea control program
  • Dental care
  • Annual fecal testing for parasites
  • For cats over 9 years of age. Annual geriatric blood testing

In addition to these basic recommendations, the Doctor may advise you of certain conditions that your particular breed may be suspect to. The Doctor may have additional recommendations for your unique environment or surroundings as well.

Some animals, particularly senior pets, may be recommended semi-annual exams along with bloodwork. Regular bloodwork can reveal abnormalities that may not otherwise be detectable before problems arise. Many times a life threatening condition can be detected early and can be treated before it becomes a threat.
